Monserrate
It
owes its name to the construction of a little chapel in honour of Our
Lady of Monserrate in Quinta da Boa Vista.
In 1856 the Englishman Francis Cook transformed the farm into one of the
main exotic gardens of the Victorian age.
Until 1947 Monserrate belonged to the Cook family and then it was bought
by the Portuguese Government.
In 1978 it was considered Building of Public Interest.
